What can you find in the Alzheimers Dictionary?

The Alzheimers Dictionary is the bridge that connects all those affected and related to Alzheimers and dementias with the terms, concepts and expressions that are part of this field. To understand them is to better understand what we are dealing with. A living and constantly growing space, which will evolve with new terms and expressions with your help, responding to your needs and demands. This is a tool that is in no way intended to replace conversations with specialised doctors. For family members and informal carers, it can be a link to a world of which they are unfamiliar with the technicalities. Shedding light, accompanying them on a difficult path in which knowledge helps to make better decisions and improve the quality of life of patients and relatives.
This project has been carried out by a team of philologists and lexicographers from several universities and research centres who have previously worked on different research projects focusing on the field of specialised lexicography, particularly medical lexicography. These projects, like this one, have been directed by Professor Bertha M. Gutiérrez Rodilla, from the University of Salamanca (Spain), who has been dedicated for more than twenty years to the diachronic and synchronic study of scientific language and medical language and is renowned for her publications in this field.

Explanation

Este documento se diferencia del de Instrucciones previas en que se delega la toma de decisiones relativas a la salud en otra persona, mientras que en las Instrucciones previas es el firmante el que deja escrito lo que quiere que se haga, aunque puede designar un representante para que vele por el cumplimiento de su voluntad. Se diferencia, por otra parte, de los Poderes preventivos en que solo afecta al ámbito de la salud.

«Asegúrese de que sus dos padres hayan firmado un poder notarial duradero para el cuidado de la salud, [DPA por Durable Power of Attorney [...]] y un poder notarial duradero para las finanzas. Estos documentos nombran a un representante –usualmente un miembro de la familia en quien se confía, o un amigo– para que actúe en lugar de sus padres cuando se necesite tomar decisiones respecto del cuidado de la salud o de las finanzas y ellos no lo puedan hacer por sí mismos» (Henry y Convery, 2006: 13).

«durable power of attorney for health care: poder de representación o notarial duradero sobre la atención médica, poder notarial de duración indeterminada sobre la atención médica. Documento legal por el que una persona designa a un representante o agente para que tome decisiones concernientes a su atención médica, como la elección de centro médico, de profesional sanitario o de tratamiento y, en la etapa final de la enfermedad, el uso de determinados procedimientos para mantener la vida» (Cruz y Gómez-Polledo, 2003: 231).

Documento legal por medio del cual el firmante delega en un representante la toma de decisiones sobre el tipo de tratamiento médico que se le debe aplicar en caso de verse impedido para decidirlo él mismo cuando llegue el momento de hacerlo.
